CPT is based on the principle that thoughts influence feelings, feelings influence behaviors, and behaviors influence our life circumstances.

In other words, situations or other people don’t make us feel certain ways. It’s how we interpret situations or things people say or do that influences how we feel.

Below we will practice utilizing one of the many skills taught during Cognitive Processing Therapy.

A-B-C

  • Activating Event

    “something happens”

  • Belief/Stuck Point

    “I tell myself something”

  • Consequence

    “I feel something”

Are my thoughts above in column B, realistic, or helpful?

What can I tell myself on such occasions in the future?
